Intern Program
The
Underwriting Development Intern Program
is intended to prepare you for a career with Travelers and
specifically for the UDP position upon graduation from
college. Qualified students will have an excellent
opportunity to gain first-hand experience, receive valuable
on-the-job training and learn more about the insurance
industry. Each intern will be expected to complete
challenging and meaningful project work over the course of
this program. In addition, there are core assignments and a
designated coach to further develop your knowledge and help
you understand and train for a future UDP position.
What is the UDP position?
The Underwriting Development Program is designed to develop
skills in insurance underwriting, sales, marketing and
product knowledge through a structured rotational insurance
program coupled with training and mentoring. This is a year
long multi-faceted program that gives participants the
business and technical skills they need to understand the
core of our business and ultimately become underwriters.
What
is an Underwriter?Insurance
is the contractual transfer of financial risk from one party
to another. Underwriters are the heart of the insurance
process, using finely tuned analytical skills to evaluate
the acceptability of business and institutional risk.
However, underwriters are more than just analysts ÂEthey are
the relationship builders with our agents and clients. They
are responsible for managing a profitable portfolio of
business through our distributing agents and brokers. An
underwriting career includes a dynamic blend of analytical
and personal selling skills ÂEit's stimulating, exciting and
a great career for the right individual.

Underwriting Development Intern Program Requirements:
Because being an underwriter is a complex, dynamic and
exciting position, we welcome interns, as well as candidates
for the UDP, that have various majors, backgrounds and
experiences. For the intern program, we are most interested
in college juniors serious about entering the
insurance industry and excited about the prospect of
eventually becoming an underwriter.
Requirements:

Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Risk
Management/Insurance, Management, Marketing or other Liberal
Arts majors with a business focus are preferred

Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing
software

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Willingness to learn

IT Intern
As
an IT intern in the Investment Management Division

actuarial internships available this summer.
Actuarial Intern
(Aliso Viejo)
This intern will work in our
Finance and Reinsurance Department of the Life Insurance
Division. In this role you will assist in various projects
relating to financial reporting and pricing of our
products. Minimum qualifications undergraduate student
majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Actuarial
Science. Ability to problem solve and pay particular
attention to detail. Strong written and communication
skills. Interest in taking or have taken any Society of
Actuary exams a plus.
Actuarial Intern

This intern will support the
Investment Management Division by assisting with annuity
pricing projects and new liability system testing. Minimum
qualifications: Undergraduate student majoring in
Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Actuarial Science.

Development department. There is an opportunity in Alison
Viejo and Newport Beach. Our HR Interns will assist in the
following areas: Make new hire packets; Prep new hire
folders (HR access form, forms to mgrs); Make copies of
all materials needed (forms, handouts); Distribute mail;
Check degrees; Check references; Source for candidates;
Stock supplies; Prepare new hire folders for supervisors and
Payroll; Help Sr. Generalists with various functions; Send

Accounting Intern
To
provide accurate and timely investment accounting, research,
analysis and reporting to internal Sr. Management and
external regulatory agencies. Main responsibilities include
monthly and quarterly processing, journal entries,
reconciling and reporting of Other Invested Assets (limited
partnerships). Seeking candidates working towards a BS/BA
Accounting/Finance or equivalent. Must be proficient with PC
spreadsheet packages. Knowledge of statutory investment
accounting helpful.
MBA Investment Analyst Intern
As an Analyst, your
responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Performing core fundamental research on an industry and the
companies that comprise it, assessing current trends in
business practices, products, and industry competition.
Keeping abreast of new regulations or policies that may
affect the industry, as well as monitor the economy to
determine its effect on earnings analyzing financial
statements, and examining corollary data in order to assess
lending risks. Modeling historical and projected financial
statements including detailed cash flow and ratio analysis.
Assisting in the preparation of documents and reports for
new and current investments. Maintaining credit files by
writing notes and reports focused on company and industry
trends. Minimum Requirements: Experience in accounting,
finance, or related investment experience (preference for
Big 4, banking, or investment industry experience) PC skills
ÂEMicrosoft Office; excel modeling skills a plus. BA or BS
minimum.
MBA Investment/Credit Analyst Intern
This position will provide support to the Credit
Analyst is area where responsibilities may include
analyzing credits, monitoring investments, as well as
some administrative duties. Our investments intern will be
exposed to a variety of fixed income instruments in addition
to working on special projects. Minimum requirements:
Understanding of corporate credit analysis, knowledge of
economics, accounting as related to investments and capital
markets (particularly government, corporate and other
financial markets); working knowledge of portfolio
management and trading techniques, exposure to performance
measurement techniques for fixed income. BA/BS minimum.

Assist teams with

Create documents for the final proposal, make copies and bind.
Update Agency Management System database. Review plan documents
for accuracy. Set-up and execute activities, and follow-up on
renewal rate request letters. Coordinate annual Schedule

Process experience claim reports. Assist with
service/claim issues. Assist with office phones.
Prepare PowerPoint presentations for sales and employee meeting
