In late November to early December, 2001, the Center for Insurance Studies
hosted a delegation of 17 top executives from pharmaceutical and medical
technology companies in Shanghai, China. The visiting Chinese executives were
eager to learn about their industry in the United States. While they were here,
they received valuable information about American business practices and
corporate operations through field trips to local corporations and from guest
speakers.
The delegation, headed by Mr. Dianliang Hu (6th from the left in the
front row), Vice President of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group Corporation, posed
for a picture taken with Dr. Weili Lu (left of Mr. Hu), Director of the Center
for Insurance Studies and International Programs, and Dr. Anil Puri (right of
Mr. Hu), Dean of the College of Business and Economics.
The two gracious guest speakers for the delegation was Albert Wong, President
and CEO of Zandiant
Technologies in Lake Forest and co-founder of Irvine-based
AST Research, Inc., a once world-famous computer manufacturer, and Tony Lee,
President and CEO of Sunpower
Nutraceuticals in Irvine. In addition, theses following
companies were kind enough to host our visitors with presentations and tours of
their facilities: Beckman
Coulter, Inc. of Fullerton,
Stason Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Irvine,
St. Jude Medical Center of Fullerton,
Sunrider International in Torrance,
Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp. of San
Diego, and ICN
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Costa
Mesa.
