Abstract: This paper examines the results of a long running study of floorspace to employment ratios in UK industrial property. The objectives of the research were to identify the densities generated by a range of industrial building types and to gain a picture of how those densities move over time, in particular with relation to economic cycles. The research was empirical taking a telephone survey of a quota sample deliniated by size and location. The findings show clusters of densities by five different building types and postulates that the number of employees in employment is the main influence upon density.
