Abstract:

This study explores spatial distribution of urban development in China, and examines the changes it has undergone-first with the People’s Revolution and then with the growth explosion under recent economic reforms. The research utilizes statistical analysis to identify the most critical variables affecting recent shifts in urban development, uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to project spatial distribution of future development, and briefly addresses the transition to land use rights and the emergence of real estate markets.
